While the trade of star Maxx Crosby brought the Las Vegas Raiders significant draft assets and cap space, it also created a major hole at defensive end.
They took the first step toward trying to fix that by signing former first-round pick Kwity Paye from the Indianapolis Colts on Monday.
It’s the latest move on a very busy opening day of free agency.

Paye obviously is not Crosby.
He’s not meant to be a replacement. It’s his job to be one piece of what figures to be more of a committee approach to make up for that production.
Paye is, however, a former first-round pick from Michigan who has more talent than he has showed thus far in his career.
The Raiders will hope to unlock some of that potential. His $16 million per year deal isn’t overwhelming.
