The trailer for the new movie “Madden” dropped Thursday, and shockingly there wasn’t a single “BOOM!” included in the 2-minute, 14-second video.
Nicolas Cage stars as the former Raiders coach, who led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1977. The film chronicles Madden’s journey on the sideline before health problems forced him to the broadcast booth, where he became the most recognizable voice in the NFL.
“Look at this guy right here. He’s got a steaming head,” Cage’s Madden says while using the telestrator he made famous as a color commentator alongside play-by-play announcer Pat Summerall. “You could have a barbecue right there.”
The movie also details his role in the Madden video game with comedian John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins pitching his idea to the former coach.
“You only have seven men on a team, and I’m out!” Cage’s Madden shouts in the trailer.
Cage seems to capture the enthusiasm for football that made Madden so endearing even if he doesn’t quite get Madden’s famous voice perfect.
Christian Bale co-stars as Raiders owner Al Davis, with Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller and Shane Gillis also part of the cast.
Directed by David O. Russell, “Madden” is in select theaters Nov. 11 and available Nov. 18 on Prime Video.
