A 60-year-old man is facing life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a suspected DUI driver in the southeast valley Friday afternoon, police said.
Troy Smith, 60, was riding his Trek 6000 bicycle east on East Desert Inn Road near South Topaz Street in the far right lane just before 4 p.m. when a 2017 BMW M440i attempted to overtake Smith and sideswiped him, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a release.
The driver of the BMW, Peter Linder, 45, failed to remain at the scene before officers located Linder and determined he was impaired, Metro said. He was booked in Clark County Detention Center for hit-and-run and DUI charges, according to the release.
Smith was transported to Sunrise Hospital, whose medical personnel determined his injuries to be life-threatening.
The collision remains under investigation.
