Lake Tahoe Unified School District Superintendent Todd Cutler will not be the new executive director of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association after all, Cutler and the NIAA confirmed to the Review-Journal on Thursday night.
Nearly 24 hours after Culter was voted to be the next executive director, the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on the terms of the contract.
“The NIAA and I were unable to come to agreement and I will not be accepting the role,” Cutler said in an email statement to the Review-Journal. He did not have any further comment on why the two sides could not come to an agreement.
Cutler was chosen as the NIAA executive director at the fall Board of Control meetings Wednesday at Bishop Gorman. The vote to approve Cutler by the NIAA Board of Control was a 7-5 vote.
NIAA interim executive director Sean FitzSimons said in an email that “two parties could not reach a mutual agreement for the terms of the contract.”
NIAA assistant director Cate Sgroi was voted at the meeting as the first runner-up. FitzSimons said he did not have an update on if Sgroi will be the new executive director.
Cutler was set to take over for the outgoing Timothy Jackson, who stepped down on Aug. 1 after two years in the position.
