Rookie cornerback Hezekiah Masses drew praise from his coach and teammates for an outstanding performance in his first start for the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Now he has also been honored by the league.
Masses was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding effort in a 26-14 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
The fifth-round pick out of California had two interceptions, adding a tackle for loss and allowing just two completions for 16 yards on 26 coverage snaps. Masses and Trent McDuffie are the only two corners in the league to have faced at least five targets and allow a passer rating of 0.0.
He’s the first Raiders rookie to have two interceptions and a tackle-for-loss in a game and also the first Raiders rookie to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week since Maxx Crosby in 2019.
