Three crashes in just over eight hours Saturday night into Sunday morning resulted in three deaths and has left three more in critical condition in a deadly Labor Day weekend in Southern Nevada.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a release that a motorcyclist died in a crash that occurred at 7:53 p.m. Saturday night in the southeast valley. According to the release, the driver of a 2024 Tesla Model 3 was stopped at a stop sign at Redwood Street and East Hacienda Avenue and failed to yield to a 2025 Honda Rebel 300. The Tesla began a left turn across the intersection and collided with the motorcycle, ejecting its 21-year-old driver onto the roadway.
The 21-year-old was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to the release. The Tesla’s driver, a 42-year-old woman, remained at the crash scene, claiming injury and did not show signs of impairment, Metro said.
The crash marks the 82nd traffic-related fataility in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
Pedestrians, 3 and 34, in critical condition
Metro also reported a crash in the northeast valley that occurred at 7:57 p.m., leaving a 3-year-old and a 34-year-old pedestrian in critical condition.
According to a Metro release, the 34-year-old was carrying the 3-year-old while crossing East Craig Road at Puebla Street outside a marked crosswalk. The 34-year-old “left the concrete median” and entered the path of a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, striking the two pedestrians and projecting them onto the roadway, Metro said.
Both pedestrians were transported to University Medical Center for trauma care. A third pedestrian avoided the collision and was not injured, according to Metro.
The driver of the Mitsubishi remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, the release said.
2 dead after rollover at California-Nevada border
The Nevada Highway Patrol reported a crash at 4:06 a.m. Sunday morning involving a single SUV rollover on State Route 163 roughly seven miles from the California-Nevada border. Two adult males were confirmed dead at the scene, and a third male was life-flighted to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to the Highway Patrol.
