On Aug., 27, Blind Center of Nevada celebrated the official grand opening of Visions Park, a 99-unit affordable housing community with supportive services for blind or visually impaired Southern Nevadans.
A white ribbon — the symbolic color for blindness and vision loss — was cut by Visions Park residents, preceded by remarks from Blind Center leadership, Visions Park residents and representatives from Nevada, Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas.
Developed by the Blind Center of Nevada, Visions Park was constructed to provide a safe and clean housing option and to provide a residential structure close to the Blind Center’s main campus.
One-, two- and three-bedroom apartments feature in-unit washers and dryers, audio-tactile walkways, accessible lighting systems, full ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility, fully furnished units and access to a shared community room.
Visions Park residents have access to optional support services at no cost, designed to promote independence, employment, wellness and community connection. Through the Blind Center of Nevada, residents can access a first-of-its-kind AI Innovation Lab, orientation and mobility training, mental health navigation, peer mentoring, workforce development and job training, fitness training, community integration activities, a food pantry and daily lunches.
Visions Park broke ground in September 2024. Funding for the $40 million Visions Park project was made possible through the support of: Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority, State of Nevada Home Means Nevada, Clark County Community Housing Funds, city of Las Vegas ARPA Funding, city of Henderson Affordable Housing Trust Funds, city of North Las Vegas CNLV Cares, FHLBank San Francisco, along with generous contributions from Bill “Brother Bob” Thompson, Davis Family Foundation, Paul Jaramillo, Galen Stockton and Rosalie and Harold Brown Charitable Trust. Visions Park Sustainability Endowment was funded through a matching grant from the Engelstad Foundation, Beverly Rogers and other generous donors and community partners including Bank of America to support wrap-around services.
