A pedestrian was killed in a crash Saturday morning in the south Las Vegas Valley, and the driver was detained on suspicion of impairment.
The crash was reported just before 2:20 a.m. on West Tropicana Avenue near South Edmond Street, west of South Decatur Boulevard, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators say the pedestrian was outside of a marked or implied crosswalk when he was struck by a 2013 Nissan Juke small SUV eastbound on Tropicana. The driver immediately brought his vehicle to a controlled stop east of the intersection.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, Mickeyl Rodriguez-Quijano, 26, of Las Vegas, showed signs of impairment and was arrested. He was booked into Clark County Detention Center for DUI-related charges.
This is the 81st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2026.
