A man suspected of harassing people in Philadelphia while donning a frightening doll mask made a brief court appearance in Las Vegas Thursday where he waived extradition.
Zymire Hughes, 22, appeared in front of Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Pro Tem Lisa Luzaich where he repeatedly attempted to conceal his face from cameras by holding up a piece of paper. Luzaich informed Hughes he is wanted in Pennsylvania and that authorities there have 30 days to come pick him up. Hughes, Luzaich said, previously signed paperwork waiving extradition.
Asked if he understood, Hughes said, “Yes, ma’am.”
Hughes was arrested Tuesday on Boulder Highway. He was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department on warrants charging him with aggravated assault and a probation violation, according to Metropolitan Police Department records and a post on the U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia X account.
Authorities said Hughes was wanted after a man was caught on video this month chasing a woman while wearing a disturbing mask in the downtown area of Philadelphia across from City Hall, according to the city’s police department. Philadelphia news outlets have reported more than a dozen people were terrorized by encounters with the person wearing the creepy mask.
Hughes was identified as the suspect by Philadelphia police.
The U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia and the the Marshals Service’s Nevada Violent Offender Task Force made the Las Vegas arrest.
