LETTER: Clark County and short-term rentals

Clark County needs to create an ordinance that allows police to remove guests staying at an unlicensed short-term rental, treating the occupancy as trespassing once the property has been determined to be operating illegally. Any refunds or financial losses suffered by the guests could then be pursued through civil court.

How many tourists would be willing to gamble on their lodging arrangements under those circumstances? Not too many, I would guess. If the consequences of staying at an unlicensed short-term rental were immediate and significant, it could go a long way toward discouraging people from using them in the first place.
