LETTER: A strange definition of ‘success’

You Aug. 21 editorial citing “success” in the Strait of Hormuz hinges on a misleading mathematical miscalculation.

If, before the war, there were 20 millions barrels of crude passing through the strait and now, six months later, there are between 5 million and 10 million barrels, how can this be rated as a “success”? We are moving in the wrong direction.

Plus, the price of gasoline has increased to more than $4.10 a gallon, which affects all aspects of our daily lives. This causes rampant inflation, which costs the average American family more than $1,500 a year. President Donald Trump and company will argue the additional tax breaks will more than make up that difference, but how many have lost food stamps, Medicare coverage and other benefits that will cancel those supposed breaks in a wink?

One more thing I don’t understand: Last June we obliterated Iran’s nuclear program, so how is it that we had to invade and bomb the country again in late February? This is absolute nonsense, as this war has no end in sight and innocent people on both sides are losing their lives. Check out Venezuela, Denmark, Cuba, South Korea (no more support there) as our foreign policy is forgotten and abandoned.
