Please explain to me why Paul Campillo, someone with an extensive criminal history — with more than 125 citations and arrests in Las Vegas, and time served in a state prison in Nevada — was out on the streets to allegedly commit a homicide in downtown Las Vegas on Thursday (“Suspect caught in fatal beating of elderly man,” Friday Review-Journal). The justice system has truly failed here.
I’m just curious: Exactly what number is “enough” where someone could (and should) be permanently placed in custody for the remainder of his or her natural life? Apparently 125-plus is not “enough.” Someone with Campillo’s criminal record has proven time and again that he cannot be rehabilitated, and letting him out only puts others in danger. It is beyond comprehension that there aren’t any laws that would permanently protect others from someone such as Paul Campillo.
