Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak indicated most of his starters will play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals at Allegiant Stadium.
“We do have a plan for those guys and how many snaps or series we’d like to see them go,” Kubiak said before Tuesday’s practice. “No need for everyone else to know it, but we’re going to have a lot of guys play in this game. We need to evaluate the whole roster.”
One possible exception could be star defensive end Maxx Crosby.
While Crosby has been ahead of schedule in his recovery from offseason knee surgery, there is still a chance the team could be reluctant about putting him on the field for live reps against an opponent.
“We’ll see about Maxx,” Kubiak said. “TBD.”
Both projected starting quarterback Kirk Cousins and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza should be good to go, however.
Kubiak said there is a plan in place for how long each will remain in the game, though he’s not prepared to share the details.
Cousins is likely to start with Mendoza taking over at some point in the first half.
“(Mendoza’s) going to get plenty of experience in the game,” Kubiak said. “We look forward to seeing him out there with his teammates.”
That could possibly even include seeing time with the first unit, depending on how long Cousins plays.
“It could happen that way,” Kubiak said. “All the starters are going to play, so he could get some reps with a few of those guys.”
The Raiders and Cardinals kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday.
