The extreme heat is sticking around this weekend in Las Vegas. But there’s also a chance of rain.

Monsoonal moisture has returned to Southern Nevada, creating chances of rain Saturday and Sunday, said Andy Gorelow, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Las Vegas.

But those chances are only 20 percent. He explained that most of the storms will be located over the mountains surrounding the valley. But he said he couldn’t rule out a stray storm or two coming into the valley.

The extreme heat warning that began July 30 finally expires at 8 p.m. Sunday. It has been extended three times. Daytime highs will be at least 110 through Sunday. The average high for early August is 105.

Cooling stations

Clark County has activated cooling stations at community centers, libraries and other buildings across the valley through Tuesday.

The cooling stations’ hours vary depending on the location. The stations include several locations in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson.

The stations are open to anyone in need of respite from the heat, the county said. Additional information can be found at the Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care’s website at helphopehome.org/get-help/.
