Two contractors working on the Boring Co.’s Vegas Loop project suffered minor injuries Thursday night and were transported to the hospital.
The Clark County Fire Department said crews responded to 4744 Paradise Road Thursday night for a medical call. That address is a Boring Co.-owned site, where it conducts Vegas Loop-related work, including processing excavated dirt and groundwater encountered during digging, and where a new station is being built.
“Two people were treated and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” said CCFD Assistant Chief Dan Bushkin.
Bushkin said Boring Co. officials said the two contractors were released from the hospital the same day.
Boring Co. said in a statement to the Review-Journal that one of the contractors experienced an electrical shock while working on a Vegas Loop site and was transported for medical care.
“Out of an abundance of caution, (he) was taken to the hospital, where he was discharged 90 minutes later and ready to return to work,” Boring Co.’s statement said.
The machine tied to the shock incident was placed in an idle safe state and won’t be returned to operations until an investigation is completed and safety mitigations are put into place, Boring Co. said.
Details about the injuries to the second worker were not disclosed.
Boring Co. is digging south from the 4744 Paradise site toward a site the company owns just south of the Paradise-Tropicana Avenue intersection near Harry Reid International Airport. The new segment will extend the Boring Co.’s University Center Loop.
The University Center line is a little more than 2-mile dual-tunnel system running under Paradise from the 4744 address to Westgate. There are a number of stations planned for the route, including at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, near the Sphere and at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Previous incidents
There have been multiple workplace incidents involving the Boring Co.’s Vegas Loop project since the company began boring tunnels in late 2019.
In 2023, 10 to 15 people suffered chemical burns after a chemical mixture was inadvertently sprayed on them during work on the loop’s Encore tunnel.
In December 2024, two Clark County firefighters reported suffering chemical burns while they were conducting safety training in Vegas Loop tunnels. Boring Co. was initially fined over $425,000 for the incident, but that fine was later rescinded. The matter was formally closed in 2025, after OSHA deemed the fines were unwarranted.
In 2025, a contractor working on Boring Co.’s University Center loop, which runs underneath Paradise Road, suffered a crushing injury and had to be lifted out of the tunnel via a crane by the Clark County Fire Department before the worker was transported to the hospital.
Other violations have been noted by area officials, including crews digging too close to Las Vegas Monorail foundations, causing a 24-hour shutdown of the system, illegally dumping dirt on a commercial center parking lot and storing a pool of green liquid stored on a site it owns at 3824 Paradise.
Another incident involving the 3824 Paradise site included crews dumping spent drilling fluid into sewer drains at the property.
Boring Co. President Steve Davis told the Review-Journal in January that the company had not been transparent enough about the incidents that have occurred during the construction of the Vegas Loop and addressed the dumping incident.
“The sewer thing was legit our mistake,” Davis said in January. “That wasn’t a malicious or harmful thing, that was a permit problem… We owned that mistake the same day.”
System scope
Boring Co.’s latest station opened Thursday at Sahara Las Vegas, adding to the list of resorts with Vegas Loop stations. Stations are also located at Resorts World, Westgate, Fontainebleau and Encore. The Las Vegas Convention Center also boasts five stations around its campus.
At full build-out, the Vegas Loop will feature 104 stations and 68 miles of tunnels, including stops at most resorts on the Strip, downtown and at at desinations including Chinatown, Allegiant Stadium and UNLV, according to company plans.
