The Athletics and general manager David Forst have parted ways, the team announced Friday, ending his 27-year run with the franchise.
Media reports, including The Athletic, are calling the move a firing by the A’s. He was promoted to general manager in October 2015.
The A’s, who will be moving Las Vegas for a new ballpark on the Strip in 2028, have not had a winning season since 2021. Since their week of games in Las Vegas in June, the A’s have a 6-21 record with injuries to many star players, including Shea Langeliers and Nick Kurtz.
Forst oversaw the team’s run to the playoffs three times during his 11 seasons as GM, yet they won one series. Their best seasons under him were 2018 and 2019 when they won 97 games in both years.
However, the bottom line is the A’s have a 45-70 record this season, sitting in fourth place in the AL West.
“David has been an integral part of the A’s and our success for nearly three decades,” A’s owner John Fisher said in a statement. “His leadership, dedication, and commitment to this team have helped shape our baseball operations department and position us for the future. We are grateful for everything David has done for our organization.”
Assistant general manager Dan Feinstein will take over the job on a interim basis, the team said.
“It was truly an honor to spend the last 27 years with the A’s, especially the last 11 as the GM,” Forst said. “This organization is full of incredibly talented, devoted, and good people, and I am lucky to have worked alongside them for so long.”
