Since Gov. Joe Lombardo took office, Nevada has created more jobs than California.
From May to June, the Las Vegas area added around 3,000 jobs. That’s a 0.3 percent increase. Over the past year, the region added more than 25,000 jobs, a 2.2 percent jump. This is according to a report from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Gov. Lombardo noted that Nevada has added more than 100,000 jobs compared with December 2022, according to DETR data. He was sworn into office in January 2023. DETR data shows Nevada now has 1.61 million jobs. Nevada also leads the nation in job growth.
There’s even good news for Nevada’s tourism sector. Throughout Nevada, employers in leisure and hospitality added 1,700 jobs. This reflects the momentum enjoyed by Southern Nevada’s most important industry. This data suggests that 2025’s downturn was largely a correction to a COVID-induced sugar high, not the start of a major downward spiral. People continue to flock to Las Vegas. That’s something everyone should celebrate, even if Democratic politicians believe trashing the local economy will help them at the polls.
Nevada’s job gains are even more impressive if you look at California. In January 2023, California had 18.54 million jobs. In June, it had 18.6 million jobs. That was an increase of fewer than 58,000. These numbers are from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Nevada tells a different story. In January 2023, the state had 1.51 million jobs. In June, it had 1.6 million jobs. That was an increase of more than 92,000 jobs. Data from the BLS and DETR have slight variations.
Under Gov. Lombardo, Nevada has added more jobs than California — not adjusted for population. This is shocking because California’s labor force is more than 11 times larger than Nevada’s. Put another way, if California added jobs at the rate Nevada did, it would have more than 1 million additional employment slots.
This is strong evidence that Gov. Lombardo’s approach is better than Gov. Gavin Newsom’s.
“These results didn’t happen by accident — they are the product of lowering barriers to growth, reducing taxes and making Nevada one of the best places in America to start, expand and invest in a business,” Gov. Lombardo said about Nevada’s job growth. Further, “more and more companies are looking to Nevada to build and expand because they know our state values innovation, rewards investment and welcomes opportunity.”
What a welcome contrast to the class warfare embraced by the left’s socialists and many in the Democratic Party establishment. Gov. Lombardo’s defense of the free market has paid off.
Freedom remains the key to greater economic growth and more job opportunities.
