Your July 18 editorial focused on pension systems and the danger of them being underfunded. What I found most striking is how Chicago is used as the measuring stick for public pensions. Chicago, and the state of Illinois led by Governor JB Pritzker, should invoke a “cautionary tale” indeed. With the upcoming midterm elections just around the corner, Nevada voters need to take a good hard look at Illinois, California and New York, just to name a few. The common denominator is the fact that these deep blue cities and states are the ones most threatened by financial insolvency.
Yes, Nevada should learn from Chicago’s mistakes and do the complete opposite of how that city (and state) is governed.
