The Southern Nevada Health District has reported a new case of cyclosporiasis in a Clark County resident amid a multistate outbreak of the intestinal illness.
Health officials said the person likely contracted the illness while traveling outside Nevada. There is no evidence the exposure occurred in Clark County or elsewhere in Nevada.
Six cyclosporiasis cases have been reported in Clark County this year.
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Sporadic cases are reported locally each year, and there is no indication of increased local transmission.
