Cornerback Jermod McCoy has officially signed his deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, a day ahead of rookies reporting for the start of training camp.
The fourth-round pick was one of the last non-quarterbacks from the NFL draft who had not yet signed a contract. Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick of the Raiders, remains unsigned along with two other early-round quarterbacks.
McCoy’s situation was fairly unique among most fourth-round selections in that he would have been a near certain first-round pick had he been healthy.
He fell in the draft because of concerns about his surgically repaired knee, costing him millions of dollars in guaranteed money, though final terms of his deal were not immediately disclosed. It’s unclear how the Raiders will manage his health, though there is optimism he could still be a key contributor as a rookie.
He was a first-team ALL-SEC performer and a second-team All-America for Tennessee in 2024.
Mendoza, fellow first-round quarterback Ty Simpson of the Rams and Steelers third-round quarterback Drew Allar remain unsigned.
Arizona signed third-round pick Carson Beck on Wednesday, perhaps setting the stage for the other signal-callers to follow suit. The salaries and lengths of contract are essentially slotted, so minor structural terms are what typically are negotiated.
New England has not yet signed second-round edge rusher Gabe Jacas, whose situation is the only one that appears to be complicated.
