Stars of the day

■ Bruce Thornton, Houston Rockets

The No. 31 overall pick was originally drafted by the New York Knicks out of Ohio State before being traded to Houston immediately after the selection.

He totaled a game-high 23 points while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals, shooting 53% from the field in the Rockets’ victory over the Nets.

A four-year standout at Ohio State, Thornton capped his collegiate career by averaging 19.9 points per game as a senior and becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,164 career points.

He also became one of just two players in Big Ten history to finish a collegiate career with at least 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists, joining Penn State alum Talor Battle.

■ Brooks Barnhizer, Oklahoma City Thunder

The second-round pick in the 2025 NBA draft out of Northwestern posted a double-double in the Thunder’s loss to the Mavericks to open the eighth day of Summer League action.

Barnhizer recorded 21 points while shooting 50% from the field, knocking down his lone 3-point attempt. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out five assists.

The 6-foot-6 forward appeared in 40 games during his rookie campaign with Oklahoma City but averaged just 8.7 minutes and 1.7 points per game on a Thunder team that fell to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals.

■ Cameron Boozer, Memphis Grizzlies

Boozer was one of two Grizzlies to score at least 20 points in Memphis’ win over the Hawks, finishing with a team-high 24 points and seven rebounds.

Drafted No. 3 overall in the 2026 NBA draft, Boozer has appeared in each of Memphis’ four Summer League games in Las Vegas and has led the team in scoring three times while averaging 19.5 points per game.

The 6-foot-9 forward played one collegiate season with the Duke Blue Devils, averaging 22.5 points per game as a freshman while helping the Blue Devils advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.

Faces in the Crowd

For the second time this week, Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby was in attendance, this time joined by teammates Thomas Booker IV and Jermod McCoy among others as they watched the Thunder take on the Mavericks.

Crosby is still recovering from meniscus repair surgery that has sidelined him since the end of the 2025 season but remains on track to be healthy for the start of training camp later this month.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr and New York Knicks coach Mike Brown sat courtside during their respective teams’ Summer League matchup.

Kerr has been at the helm in the Bay Area since May 2014 and will begin his 13th season with the Warriors when the NBA season tips off in October. He is the winningest coach in franchise history with a 604-353 record and four championships in six NBA Finals appearances.

Brown has been in New York for just one season, guiding the Knicks to a 53-29 regular-season record and their first NBA championship since 1973 after replacing Tom Thibodeau, who spent five seasons with the franchise.
