The comments by NBA executive Warren LeGarie in Tuesday’s newspaper show how disconnected he is with middle-class and retired Nevada residents. His comment that “everybody wants to be an NBA franchise” is divorced from reality. Bringing the NBA and MLB is supported by millionaires, casino owners and sportswriters, not local working people and fixed-income retirees.
If Mr. LeGarie believes his statement, why not put it to a vote? I’m betting 80 percent or more Las Vegas residents would have opposed the A’s coming here and would oppose an NBA team. For the average resident, there are many disadvantages — traffic, crime, higher home prices, tax giveaways, etc. There are no advantages. What percentage of residents do you believe would be able to attend an NBA game?
