Conor McGregor’s comeback fight never really got a chance to get started.
McGregor darted across the cage and attempted to throw a flying left kick in the direction of Max Holloway in the welterweight main event of UFC 329 at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night only to land awkwardly on his right leg.
He attempted to continue, but fell to the mat several times before the referee waved off the fight and awarded Holloway a TKO victory at 1:09.
“What can I say,” Holloway said. “I had him weak in the knees, I guess.”
McGregor was back in action for the first time since suffering a broken leg at the end of the first round in a fight against Dustin Poirier almost exactly five years ago on July 10, 2021 in the very same arena.
Holloway, who had dropped a unanimous decision to McGregor early in their careers, said he hoped there could be a rematch.
“There was just so much hype for this,” he said.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
