I was impressed with your Tuesday article about our firefighters, “Ready to rescue in Henderson.” I thank the Review-Journal for their recognition. It showed firefighters training in water-rescue scenarios. In the old days, firefighters often got a bum rap as a bunch of guys sitting in a fire station, playing cards until a call came in.
I went to the opening of a new station in my neighborhood. That was impressive. They hold classes, do training and many have EMT training to handle most medical situations. I also noted a full exercise weight room. All these men and women looked fit as a fiddle. I’m sure any one of them could come into my burning home and carry my wife and I in each arm and drag a hose at the same time. They earn a well-deserved salute.
