The Vegas Golden Knights will now have to find a replacement at fourth-line right wing after trading Keegan Kolesar to the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
Trade details:
Red Wings receive: Keegan Kolesar
Knights receive: 2027 seventh-round pick, 2029 third-round pick
Reaction
Moving on from Kolesar hurts on the ice and in the locker room.
Kolesar brought energy to the team with his sense of humor and chirping during practice. He was always viewed as someone that brought a sense of community to the room, and he’ll be missed there.
On the ice, Kolesar was a pillar for the last six years on the fourth line and became synonymous with the culture the Knights created.
He was never a goal scorer, but a hard-hitting, physical grinder that would bring his teammates into the fight and was never afraid to stand up for his teammates.
There are guys out there that can replace that, and the Knights will try to do so from within. Initially, it’ll be tough.
But the Knights were able to clear $2.5 million in cap space and reeled in two draft picks for their troubles. Overall, it’s not a bad bit of business.
It does lend the question of who replaces Kolesar. That should make for an interesting training camp competition.
