Two people were arrested Monday on child abuse charges after an 8-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and hospitalized with critical injuries, jail records show.
Mark Ecott, 35, and Aubrey Lambdin, 30, each face four felony counts of child abuse or neglect. They were arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center under an event number associated with a Sunday night crash that left a child critically injured.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that the child was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard North west of North Lamb Boulevard outside of a crosswalk around 9:30 p.m. when they were struck by a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.
The child was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.
Metro said the Hyundai driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. A public information officer said Tuesday that the crash was still under investigation.
It is unclear how Ecott and Lambdin are connected to the child, though court records indicate that if Ecott is released on bail, he must “comply with all child protective services directives.” A Las Vegas judge set his bail at $20,000.
Lambdin is being held without bail because she allegedly violated the terms of her probation in a separate case, according to court records. In May, she pleaded no contest to a domestic battery charge and was sentenced to four months in jail, with the sentence suspended in favor of community service and impulse control counseling.
Ecott was identified as a victim in the battery case, and court records indicate that Lambdin was not allowed to contact him as part of her plea agreement.
Attorneys for Ecott and Lambdin could not be immediately reached.
