Las Vegas police said the killing this month of a man who threatened to shoot his ex-girlfriend is being reviewed as a possible case of self-defense.
Investigators are expected to send their findings to the Clark County district attorney’s office, the Metropolitan Police Department said in an incident report.
Metro officers were responding to a domestic disturbance June 13 on the 6200 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, near Mt. Hood Street in the east Las Vegas Valley, when they were diverted by another 911 call reporting that someone had been shot in a nearby vehicle, the report released Friday stated.
Officers found Anthony Lewis, 31, in the driver’s side seat of a vehicle on East Lake Mead Boulevard with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the report.
Lewis died at the scene, police said. The Clark County coroner’s office ruled his death a homicide.
The report states a woman called 911 because her ex-boyfriend was outside yelling and threatening to shoot her.
“Patrol officers quickly determined that Anthony was the suspect in the original domestic disturbance they were en route to,” the report said. “As officers arrived on the domestic call, they observed a large amount of blood and immediately detained three individuals who were inside the apartment,” Lewis’ ex-girlfriend, her current boyfriend, and a roommate.
Metro’s report redacted the names of Lewis’ ex-girlfriend, her boyfriend and the roommate. It’s not clear who the shooter was because of the redactions in the report.
As officers took one man into custody. He told police he had unloaded a gun and placed it on a bed, the report stated.
When asked Monday, a Metro spokesperson would not say who the shooter was and said the shooting was still under investigation.
