Eagle Valley Resevoir in Pioche is closed for boating activity indefinitely due to fire supression activity related to the Grapevine Fire, which remains at zero containment Saturday.
The closure follows the Bureau of Land Management’s decision to close Beaver Dam State Park, located roughly 60 miles south of Eagle Valley Resevoir.
“Residents and visitors are reminded to avoid active fire areas and remain alert for firefighting personnel and equipment operating on area roads. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and the public is encouraged to stay informed, review their emergency plans, and follow all posted closures and restrictions,” the BLM said in a release.
As of Saturday morning, the Grapevine Fire, one of two active blazes burning south of Caliente and 140 miles northeast of Las Vegas, is estimated at 26,203 acres. Active fire behavior is expected to persist in the Bunker Pass area and Mud Springs area due to high winds and low humidty, according to the BLM.
A red flag warning remains in effect as critical fire weather is expected to develop in the area through Saturday night. High 25 mph winds and gusts up to 40 mph may produce low visibility due to ash and dust in the air and spur fire growth where fuels are available, the BLM said.
The Kane Springs Fire, estimated at 17,042 acres was at 50 percent contained as of Friday morning.
Heavy equipment and hand crews coninute reinforcing the Bunker Hill Road system, using dozers to expand existing fuel breaks and strengthen containment features. Crews continue mop-up operations on interior hotspots and evaluating contingency lines, should they be needed, the release said.
Bucket missions are expected to progress Saturday morning while conditions allow, although increased winds and low visibiliy may be limiting factors.
