In response to George LeMay’s Tuesday letter, “The shredder,” criticizing Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill’s plan to stop “street takeovers”:
Sometimes we have to separate facts from fantasies. I too saw the movie “Goldfinger” back in the day. I’m sure the sheriff isn’t crushing cars with dead bodies, fuel or oil in them.
As to the value or ownership of these vehicles, their drivers have been engaging in very dangerous driving practices on our streets. Maybe the sheriff could turn the vehicles over to the lending institutions, and they could deal with the loans they gave and make the drivers liable to pay the vehicles off. These “side shows” will only get worse if something isn’t done.
I have a family member who lives close to Oakland, and she deals with these events almost daily going to work. Oakland can’t seem to get a handle on this problem either. Maybe Oakland would benefit from crushing those vehicles as well.
These bad actors should be thankful that Sheriff Ralph Lamb isn’t around today because this wouldn’t be happening at all. Sheriff Lamb was known for issuing tickets on Sahara for going under the speed limit. You would think that these drivers have more important things to do besides endangering their communities.
