Relatives said Tuesday that the second child has died following a weekend apartment fire in the East Las Vegas Valley.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by the children’s aunt, Juliet Palmore, identified the blaze victims as 3-year-old Ca’Liyah R. Casey and 6-year-old Champion D Moore. Palmore said that the children’s mother had been left with pain and hardship.
The coroner identified Ca’Liyah as one of the victims but has not done so for Champion.
“My sister herself is recovering physically but is deeply affected by the trauma,” Palmore said. “Their home was completely destroyed, leaving her with nothing and facing unimaginable grief and uncertainty.”
The Clark County Fire Department said Monday that the night before, firefighters knocked down a two-story blaze involving two units. A department spokesperson said that multiple occupants were trapped inside and that two children were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Palmore asked for donations to support the children’s mother while she grieves.
Palmore wrote: “No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child, and the financial burden only adds to the heartbreak.”
