RALEIGH, N.C. — The Vegas Golden Knights overcame an early two-goal deficit in the first period and rallied for a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center on Tuesday.

Center Tomas Hertl broke the tie with 3:24 remaining off a backhand assist from winger Colton Sissons.

Defenseman Shea Theodore had a goal and two assists, and defenseman Brayden McNabb recorded the first three-assist game of his NHL career.

Game 2 is in Raleigh on Thursday.

The Knights were pushing uphill 25 seconds into the game when Carolina forward Nik Ehlers scored the first of two goals on the first shot of the game off a 2-on-1. Ehlers made it 2-0 on a breakaway at 12:08.

Theodore answered with his fifth goal of the playoffs 1:20 later to get the Knights on the board.

Winger Ivan Barbashev and center William Karlsson added goals in the second period, and winger Brett Howden broke a 3-3 tie 1:20 into the third.

Goaltender Carter Hart finished with 23 saves. The Knights improved to 3-0 all-time in Game 1 of the Cup Final.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
