A “mega camp” is a large-scale training event that allows high school athletes from around the country to come train in front of a number of college football coaches in attendance.
On Sunday, the Las Vegas Mega Camp was held at UNLV’s facilities at the Fertitta Football Complex.
“A lot of schools around the country have mega camps, but one of the things we have going for us here is our location,” said UNLV head coach Dan Mullen, whose name appeared on the camp shirts the high school athletes wore.
“You’re looking at kids from Southern California, Northern California, the Arizona area, Utah, Nevada, as well as national kids, because we are an easy location to get to. We’re very fortunate to have this event here on our campus.”
In total, an estimated 900 high school players attended the Las Vegas Mega Camp, which lasted over 12 hours, with multiple showcases split between offensive and defensive linemen and skill positions such as quarterbacks, wide receivers, and linebackers.
Several notable programs were scheduled to be in attendance to get a look at prospects from the 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 graduating classes, including Oregon, Minnesota and California, among others.
“This is a type of college showcase, you have all kinds of top schools from around the country here,” Mullen said. “These guys don’t just get to work on their skills. They get to perform not just in front of our coaching staff but coaches from different Power 4 schools.”
“I think this event shows not only the talent in Nevada but in the surrounding area as well.”
Over the last three seasons, the UNLV football program has amassed 30 wins, three consecutive trips to the Mountain West championship game, and three consecutive bowl appearances, including a win over Cal in the 2024 LA Bowl.
“We are fortunate enough to have the facilities and the city to make all of this happen,” Mullen said. “We want to make UNLV a premier national program.
“When there are 800-900 high school kids coming onto your campus in one day, trying to find ways to get better, you’re putting yourself in that category of a place where a lot of high school kids around the country want to be. They get to see what we’re all about.”
UNLV currently holds the No. 63 overall recruiting class nationally in 2026 according to 247Sports while while ranking first across all Group of Six programs.
