Mark Miscevic, one of the founders of what became Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties and a skydiving enthusiast, has died from heart failure. He was 78.
Miscevic, who was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was one of the founding members of Americana Group Realtors — a company that would eventually evolve into Americana Group Better Homes and Gardens, Prudential Americana Group and ultimately to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Nevada Properties.
Miscevic was one of the original leaders of the famous Flying Elvi, a professionally licensed skydiving team, which made an appearance in the 1992 movie “Honeymoon in Vegas,” starring Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker. The team also did regular charity and exhibition jumps throughout the years.
“Like myself, many of us met Mark through his work in real estate at Americana Group, Better Homes and Gardens, where he became widely respected not only for his professional success, but for the positive impact he had on the lives of those around him,” said Rodger Foster, a real estate agent and former Flying Elvi. “For those of us who were fortunate enough to truly know him, Mark had a rare ability to change people’s lives for the better. He was a motivator, mentor, and natural leader who inspired confidence and encouraged others to reach beyond what they ever dreamed possible.”
Miscevic was a nationally recognized Certified Residential Specialist who spoke regularly across the country on residential real estate and was seen as one of the pioneers of the modern Las Vegas residential real estate world.
In 1980, he was elected as president of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors, now known as Las Vegas Realtors.
Ron Rassmussen, an agent with Americana said he met Miscevic 35 years ago when he first received his real estate license.
“I was one of the lucky ones. He personally trained us in classes called the Master Selling Series. I will always be grateful to Mark for his training and his friendship,” he said. “He will live on in the hearts of those of us that respected him and loved him. Mark was an integral part in making me the Realtor I became.”
On Jan. 12, 1993, during a skydiving jump supporting the United Blood Services, Miscevic crashed into a parked vehicle, suffering injuries that would confine him to a wheelchair. He completed a tandem skydive years after his accident.
A funeral mass and celebration of life will take place on June 11 at Guardian Angel Cathedral, 302 Cathedral Way.
