A man who was involved in a police shooting on the grounds of Legacy High School on Thursday has been identified as Jallel Jenkins-Harris, 21.
Clark County Detention Center jail booking records show Jenkins-Harris is facing multiple felonies, including attempted murder with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of stolen property, attempted home invasion, robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property. He is being held without bail.
North Las Vegas police said Jenkins-Harris suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday afternoon at Legacy.
The incident started just after 10:30 a.m., North Las Vegas police said, when a man was concealing items inside a store near the Deer Springs Town Center shopping mall in the 7000 block of North Fifth Street. When police arrived, the man fled on foot.
A chase ensued, which eventually led to the Legacy High School campus west of West Deer Springs Way and North Fifth Street. The school and Northeast Career and Technical Academy were placed on lockdown.
After the man brandished a handgun, at least one North Las Vegas officer fired a shot, police said. The suspect also fired a gunshot. He was later found suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man’s condition had been stabilized at University Medical Center as of Thursday night.
