Democrats can’t defend boys playing in girls’ sports. But that doesn’t keep them from supporting it.
On Saturday, AB Hernandez dominated the jumping events at a girls’ track meet in California. Hernandez won the long jump and triple jump outright and tied for first in the high jump in the California Interscholastic Federation, Southern Section Division 3 preliminaries. Normally, athletic excellence is something to celebrate, but you shouldn’t celebrate a cheater.
Hernandez is male. The high school senior should be competing against boys, but he claims to be a girl. In California, that allows him to compete against girls.
The results reveal how unfair this is. Hernandez jumped 42 feet and 4 inches in the girls’ triple jump. The girl who finished second — who should have received the gold — jumped under 40 feet. Hernandez won going away. But that distance wouldn’t have even put him among the top 10 boys.
Hernandez wouldn’t have finished in the top 10 of his other two events either. Competing against his male peers, he wouldn’t have even advanced to the Southern Section Championships in any event. Competing against females, he won the top spot — three times.
This is grossly unfair. After puberty, boys are bigger, stronger and faster than girls. This biological reality is why Congress passed Title IX, which eventually ensured female athletes had a chance to compete against their peers.
This is so obvious that even California Gov. Gavin Newsom has acknowledged it. In a March 2025 interview, Charlie Kirk pressed Newsom on this issue. And, oh man, it was hard to watch Kirk knowing he would be assassinated just a few months later.
“Would you say, ‘No men in female sports?’ ” Kirk asked Newsom.
“I think it’s an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness — it’s deeply unfair,” Newsom said.
But Newsom doesn’t want the unfairness to stop. He wants to avoid the political ramifications of supporting such an insane policy.
“The governor’s position is simple: stand with all kids and stand up to bullies,” a source from the governor’s office said in a statement to Fox News Digital when asked about Hernandez.
Even if many Californians aren’t, Nevadans should be smart enough to see through that spin.
Newsom isn’t standing with all kids. He’s elevating boys who pretend to be girls and wants to bully the female athletes who object into silence. Talk about a war on women.
This isn’t just an issue in Nevada. Gov. Joe Lombardo is currently spearheading a ballot measure to protect female athletes in Nevada. His likely gubernatorial opponent, Attorney General Aaron Ford, said, “I personally do not support trans athletes competing in sports opposite their gender assigned at birth.” But then he attacked Lombardo for bringing up the issue.
Not exactly the response of someone who wants to protect girls’ sports.
Keeping boys out of girls’ sports doesn’t need to be a partisan issue. It wasn’t for decades. But Democrats insist on making it one. Vote accordingly.
