Grading the Las Vegas Raiders’ selection of Trey Zuhn

The Las Vegas Raiders used their first two picks Friday at the NFL draft to address their defense.

They wrapped up the day by selecting someone to help protect their franchise quarterback of the future, Fernando Mendoza.

General manager John Spytek helped bolster a rebuilding front five by selecting Texas A&M offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III.

The grade: B

Zuhn lacks high-end talent and strength, but plays very smart with an understanding of angles and concepts that allows him to out-perform his traits.

That was more than enough in college.

He shared the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, awarded to the SEC’s top lineman, with Alabama’s Kadyn Proctor.

Zuhn also has the kind of versatility coveted by Spytek.

He played 11 games at left tackle and two at center this year for the Aggies, though he likely projects as a guard at the next level.
