Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said Wednesday the team really hoped to follow through on an agreed-upon trade to acquire Raiders star Maxx Crosby.

“We were just not able to complete the process of trying to acquire the player based on our assessment of the situation,” he said of the decision to back out the deal at the 11th hour on Tuesday night.

DeCosta said the decision to withdraw from the trade after reviewing Crosby’s medical report was not an easy one.

“I’ve got a resonsiblity to do what’s best for the club and that’s what we always try to do,” DeCosta said. “Nobody is more upset about this than me. Gutted by it, actually. Big regret for me, but we will move on as a football team.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
