Inclement weather in the desert Southwest resulted in flight delays at two major airports Wednesday.

Harry Reid International Airport experienced one flight cancellation and 111 total delays, according to FlightAware, an aviation flight-tracking website.

FlightAware said the delays were the result of high winds in Southern Nevada.

Bad weather in other parts of the country frequently affects Reid’s schedule when inbound flights are delayed.

The National Weather Service predicted sustained winds from the south of between 16 and 18 mph during the day with peak wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph through the late afternoon and evening.

As of 2 p.m., 56 inbound flights and 55 departures were delayed at Reid Wednesday. One Southwest Airlines flight to Phoenix was canceled.

The Reid delays represented 8 percent of the day’s scheduled arrivals and departures.

Further south, a ground stop was reported between noon and 1:15 p.m. at Sky Harbor International Airport, as thunderstorms rolled through Phoenix.

As of 1 p.m., the airport reported that more than 70 flights were delayed and nine were canceled but FlightAware statistics showed 196 flights were delayed in Phoenix and eight were canceled.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
