Google will make an eight-figure investment to “support energy innovation and affordability in Nevada.”
The tech company announced a $10 million Energy Impact Fund for the state of Nevada in a Tuesday press release. The investment will be split in half, with first $5 million going to the Nevada Clean Energy Fund to establish the Residential Energy Upgrade Program, or RE-UP program, and the remaining $5 million to be distributed in late 2026. Plans for that contribution have yet to be announced.
Google said it is “committed to being a good neighbor” and its “presence directly benefits Nevadans.” The tech giant has had a presence in Nevada since 2019 with its Henderson data center and its Storey County data center since 2021.
“Through this partnership with the Nevada Clean Energy Fund, we are helping put critical home upgrades within reach for more households, lowering energy costs, improving health and safety, and ensuring more communities share in the benefits of Google’s long-standing commitment to Nevada,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, Global Head of Energy and Power at Google.
NCEF is a nonprofit established by state legislation in 2017 to serve as “Nevada’s green bank,” according to its website.
The $5 million investment into NCEF’s RE-UP program will provide no cost energy upgrades, energy efficiency, weatherization, pre-weatherization and critical safety upgrades to Nevada households. The upgrades may include insulation, sealing cracks and ducts, window replacements, as well as air conditioning and heating system replacements to help bring more modern and efficient equipment into people’s homes.
“Nevada’s climate can be unforgiving. Whether it’s extreme summer heat in the south or harsh winter conditions in the north,” said Kirsten Stasio, CEO of NCEF. “When we have that outdated heating and cooling systems, and leaky homes, it can put both household budgets and family well-being at risk.”
The program is targeted at low- and moderate-income households who might earn too much qualify for traditional weatherization programs but not enough to make the investment in home energy improvements, said Stasio.
