Las Vegas natives Kyle and Kurt Busch are set to be honored by having roads named after them at their hometown race track.

The racing brothers, who made a name for themselves in NASCAR, will see Busch Brothers Drive and Rowdy Road added to an existing L-shaped private drive aisle at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, according to Clark County records. The street name changes are subject to approval by the Clark County Planning Commission, with the items set to be heard and voted on at its Sept. 15 board meeting.

Rowdy was the nickname of the late two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who died in May as bacterial pneumonia progressed into sepsis. Kyle made his debut on March 7, 2004, in Las Vegas and went on to win 63 races during his career.

“Kyle Busch’s nickname, Rowdy, has become synonymous with his identity,” LVMS’ justification of the name change read. “The name provides a lasting connection to a person that became an important part of the history and identity of Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Naming the drive aisle Rowdy Road provides a fitting and lasting way to memorialize Kyle Busch and honor his legacy.”

LVMS’ senior vice president and general manager Patrick Lindsey is listed at the applicant on the street name change requests.

Kurt Busch made his NASCAR debut in 2000 and was the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion.

The justification for the Busch Brothers Drive name change noted it would honor the longstanding contributions and connection between Kurt, Kyle and the Busch family between the speedway, NASCAR and Southern Nevada.

The name change requests come weeks before LVMS is set host two NASCAR races, the Focused Health 302 on Oct. 3 and the South Point 400 on Oct. 4.

County staff recommends the approval of both street name changes.
