An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a man in a backyard last month in the east Las Vegas Valley.

Gabriel Rivera, 23, was taken into custody Monday in Menifee, California, by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

He was booked into the Riverside Southwest Detention Center pending his extradition back to Las Vegas.

Officers received a ShotSpotter alert and a 911 call around 4:30 a.m. Aug. 5 and responded to a house in the 4500 block of East Ogden Avenue, near Charleston and Lamb boulevards, according to Lt. Robert Price.

Officers found the victim, later identified as Edward McClellan, 39, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office said McClellan died of multiple gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
