The Las Vegas Raiders had top priority on the waiver wire and claimed cornerback Darrell Luter Jr., who was waived by the San Francisco 49ers on NFL roster cutdown day after having played with them for the last three seasons.
Luter was the lone player on the waiver wire Monday taken by the Raiders, while none of their players waived Sunday were claimed.
A corresponding transaction was not announced.
Luter was a fifth-round draft pick out of South Alabama in 2023 by San Francisco, playing 27 games, including 17 last season. Listed at 6 feet and 190 pounds, he started three games in 2025 and mostly played as a special teamer, playing 63 percent of the 49ers’ special teams snaps compared to 25 percent of their defensive snaps.
He logged 67 defensive snaps his first two seasons and has 38 career tackles and a pass deflection.
The Raiders waived 23 players Sunday, trimming their roster to 53, and could retain several via the practice squad. Among those flashing in training camp who are primed for position on the practice squad: rookie seventh-round pick and defensive tackle Brandon Cleveland, rookie running back Roman Hemby, rookie defensive tackle Gary Smith III, rookie wide receiver E.J. Williams and second-year cornerback Greedy Vance, who played six games last season for Las Vegas.
Rookie wide receiver Chase Roberts was waived with an injury designation and reverts to the Raiders’ injured reserved because he was unclaimed.
Unclaimed players become free agents and are free to sign elsewhere. Las Vegas starts its season Sept. 13 against the Miami Dolphins at Allegiant Stadium.
