The officer involved in a shooting of an “agitated” woman approaching with a sharp-edged weapon Friday morning near the College of Southern Nevada in the west Las Vegas Valley has been identified.
Delylah Donegan, 28, has been with the Metropolitan Police Department since 2022, the department said in a release Sunday. Assigned to the Bolden Area Command, she has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review.
In addition, police arrest records identify the suspect as Catalina Alverado, 26.
Police said Friday at 5:15 a.m. two officers were in the CSN parking lot on the 6300 block of West Charleston Boulevard when “they were approached by an agitated female who was in possession of an edged weapon.”
“The female approached officers, took the edged weapon and began banging on the side of officers’ vehicles while demanding to be shot by officers,” Metro Capt. Adam Seely said.
Officers ordered the woman to drop the weapon and when she didn’t one used an “electronic control device” on the woman, Seely said.
“When it was ineffective, the other officer discharged their firearm and the suspect was struck,” Seely said.
Alverado was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition. She is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Count on Tuesday.
