A Texas woman accused of hitting and killing a motorcyclist while under the influence of marijuana in Las Vegas on Sunday told police she smoked several days prior, according to Las Vegas police.

Angela Denley-Dick, 55, of Houston, was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of DUI resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm and failure to obey a stop sign following Sunday’s crash at the intersection of East Windmill Lane and South Haven Street, near Las Vegas Boulevard South, according to a Metropolitan Police Department arrest report.

Police said the crash occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. Investigators learned that Denley-Dick was traveling south on Haven in a Mercedes-Benz sedan and failed to come to a complete stop at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection at Windmill and colliding with a motorcyclist who was heading east on Windmill on a Kawasaki Ninja 500, according to the arrest report.

“The Mercedes-Benz entered the Kawasaki’s path of travel, and the front of the Kawasaki collided with the passenger side B-pillar, causing the passenger-side air curtain to deploy upon impact,” the report said.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist, Rashad Al-Battikhi, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said the Mercedes did not come to a complete stop before entering the intersection with Windmill, indicating that Denley-Dick “accelerated through the intersection in a careless manner,” the report said.

According to the arrest report, an “extremely emotional” Denley-Dick told police after the crash that she did not see any vehicles traveling east or west. An officer then requested she perform field sobriety tests, which police said she performed “unsatisfactorily.”

Denley-Dick also told police she smoked marijuana and “recently smoked several days prior,” the report said. Officers collected two blood samples from the woman for testing, but the results were not included in the report.

“Angela stated that her mouth was dry but said she would consent to the (field sobriety) tests,” police said in an accompanying impaired driving report. Police also noted Denley-Dick was wearing contacts, but that she had a “glazed look” in her eyes.

Denley-Dick was taken to University Medical Center for minor injuries suffered in the crash and was later taken to the Las Vegas jail for booking, police said. She made an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court on Tuesday, where she was ordered to be held without bail, according to online court records.

Denley-Dick does not have an attorney listed on her case file.
