Aces star center A’ja Wilson was downgraded to questionable for Sunday afternoon’s matchup against the Toronto Tempo in Vancouver with a back injury.
Historically, the four-time MVP has not missed much time, sitting out just 11 regular-season games throughout her career. Wilson was sidelined for three contests in early July after sustaining a right ankle injury in an awkward fall against the Chicago Sky. She was rested two weeks ago along with the Aces’ other top players against the New York Liberty for the second game of a back-to-back.
This latest issue does not appear to have an obvious in-game cause.
Las Vegas is 1-2 this season without Wilson, sitting just a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Dream and one game ahead of the Indiana Fever in the standings. Additionally, the Aces lost the Commissioner’s Cup championship game to the Liberty without her in a game that doesn’t count in the standings.
Wilson leads the league in scoring, averaging 25.9 points, and blocks, averaging two.
The Aces last faced the Tempo on Aug. 6, cruising to a 109-83 victory in Toronto. Wilson recorded a game-high 26 points to go with six rebounds and four assists.
