The start of the high school football season for some Southern Nevada teams has been put on hold.

Lightning delays around Las Vegas have put at least three games on hold for the first night of high school football action on Friday night.

Those games are: Green Valley at Foothill, Sierra Vista at Desert Oasis, Central East (California) at Sloan Canyon and Bonanza at Chaparral.

Despite a pre-game delay, Centennial-Coronado (7 p.m.) is scheduled to start on time.

Fans at the Green Valley-Foothill game at Foothill in Henderson have not been allowed to enter the stadium and wasn’t expected to start play until 7:30 p.m. at the earliest.

Sloan Canyon and Desert Oasis are expected to get onto the field for their games by around 7 p.m., pending any other lightning strikes.

Per state rules, games cannot be played if there is a lightning strike within 10 miles of the school. Teams can return to the field if 30 minutes passes and there is not another lightning strike.

There have been no other confirmed delays or cancellations. Bishop Gorman’s season opener against Losee is still scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
