Torri McNichols wasted no time using her $200 in free slot play at Treasure Island after signing up for a new rewards card Tuesday. She quickly headed toward a Dragon Link machine not far from the Treasury Club hotel-casino rewards desk, inserted a $20 bill, loaded up the free play and hit the button for a max bet.
“Why not bet big?” the Rochester, New York resident asked rhetorically while lighting up a “badly needed” Newport Light. “It’s basically free money.”
After standing in line for nearly two hours, McNichols played through her $200 in free money in less time than it took to finish her cigarette.
“Easy come, easy go,” she said, shrugging her shoulders and smiling.
McNichols was among hundreds of guests lined up Tuesday afternoon to test their luck using Treasure Island’s money. By 2:30 p.m., the line snaked through the casino floor, wrapping around itself several times.
“I’ve never won anything with free play, but I’ve never had $200 of free play before either,” said Tommy Melton, of Tucson, Arizona. He was going to search for a Mo Mummy slot machine once he was all signed up. “Love that game.”
The free play promotion is open to new and existing Treasury Club rewards members. The $200 must be used within 24 hours and only requires a single play through, meaning once a player has wagered $200, any winnings or leftover funds can be cashed out.
The promotion is attracting a lot of attention for both its liberal terms and its scope. While many casinos offer free play, none give out this level of free play to such a wide range of gamblers.
The promotion is available Mondays through Wednesdays and runs until Sept. 7.
