The Democratic Socialists of America are not a political party. They are a nonprofit multi-tendency socialist and membership organization.
There are established Socialist and Communist parties in the United States. The Democratic Socialists know that, if they run on the Socialist ticket, they will have little chance of success. But by hitching their wagon to the Democratic Party they have access to more than 50 percent of the voter population. The Democrats made it easy by proclaiming they are a big tent and that everyone is welcome.
I am not a Democrat, but I have a friend who is. She is very loyal to her party but will not vote for a socialist. She said she can either vote for the socialist or the Republican or not vote at all. She said that all three options take away the meaning of her vote and she is very disheartened.
My guess is that she is not alone, and I wonder why the true Democrats are not fighting for her and their party.
