The Paseo Verde Little League team made another win look easy on Saturday, blowing past Wyoming 12-0 in the first round of the Little League Baseball Mountain Region Tournament at San Bernardino, California.
Any suspense was over by the end of the first inning, as the Nevada representatives scored seven runs with the help of five walks, three hits and a key error to get the four-inning victory started.
“We wanted to jump out with the lead,” coach Corey Edwards said. “But we didn’t anticipate that. I think it’s a momentum-builder. To win 12-0 on ESPN just feels a little bigger, and we’re happy with that.”
Brooks McFarland had two hits in the game, and Jace Ward and James Esber had two RBIs apiece.
Due to a fortunate draw in the tournament bracket, Paseo Verde (7-0 in the postseason) advances to Tuesday’s 10 a.m. semifinal, with the winner advancing to Friday’s championship game for a chance to secure a spot in the Little League World Series at South Williamsport, Pennsylvania beginning Aug. 19.
Utah also won Saturday, defeating Colorado 5-4. Those teams will battle with Montana and Wyoming on Sunday and Monday to determine the other semifinalists.
