Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill provided additional information Wednesday on the officer killed Tuesday in the line of duty.
Austin Abdelnabi, 30, died Tuesday afternoon following a gunbattle with an armed suspect in the east Las Vegas Valley. McMahill said the suspect ambushed Abdelnabi.
McMahill said he wanted to make sure Abdelnabi’s family across the nation was notified by the department before releasing his name to the public.
The gunman also was killed.
